Adult Applesauce
Ingredients:
12 Assorted Apples (I try to mix half sweet with half tart but, any combination of apples works.)
1 Heaping Cup of Berries, Fresh or Frozen (Raspberries, Blueberries, Strawberries, etc)
Zest and Juice of 2 Oranges
1/8 Cup of Unrefined Coconut Sugar
2 Tablespoons Vegan Butter (Or, Butter, diet permitting. Choose grass-fed and organic.)
1 Heaping Tablespoon Cinnamon
1/4 Teaspoon Nutmeg
1/8 Teaspoon Cloves
(If you do not have all of these individually, you may use 1Heaping Tablespoon Pumpkin Pie Spice)
Method:
Preheat Oven to 180C / 350F
Zest and Juice the Oranges into an oven-safe dish with a fitted lid. (Like Le Creuset Dutch Oven)
Peel and Core ALL Apples. Discard Peels and Cores.
Chop the Apples into rough quarters. (There is no wrong way to chop/slice the apples.)
Add Apples to the dish and toss so that the orange juice and zest coats the apples.
Add Sugar, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Cloves, and Butter.
Mix.
Cover the dish with it's lid and place into the center of the oven.
Bake for 75 minutes.
CAREFULLY, remove the dish from the oven and once resting in a safe workspace, remove the lid.
Using a mashed potato masher, mash the spiced apples until a chunky mix is formed.
However you choose to serve your applesauce, I cannot wait to see your creativity!
Enjoy! xx
